Open Box: a monthly open mic for playwrights
-----

Information for Playwrights:
If you plan to bring a 10-minute script to Open Box, please be sure to be there by 4:00pm with enough copies of the script for each character (and stage directions, if you need them read.) Late scripts are sometimes not included. (Which makes us all sad!)

We generally have six versatile actors available each month - three women and three men.

Readings will be stopped at 10 minutes.

Rule of thumb for 10 minutes: If your formatting includes plenty of white space and no monologues, 8 pages equals 10 minutes. If you have monologues and tight formatting, 3-5 pages equals 10 minutes. Time it yourself by reading it aloud, slowly, keeping in mind that actors add pauses.

If your piece gets stopped before it’s over, don’t worry. You’re learning to judge how much time your scripts take per page. Always good to know!
SEATTLE DRAMATISTS
“The chance to serve up raw ideas and to hear the uncooked themes of other aspiring playwrights is both a confidence builder and an austere teacher.  I will certainly be back for more.”
- Toby Scales, an Open Box playwright
Open Box is a great opportunity to hear short works by local playwrights read aloud by talented actors. It takes place every month on a Saturday at the Jewel Box Theatre in the back of the Rendezvous Tavern, 2322 2nd Avenue, 4:30-6:00pm. Admission is a reasonable $3.

Please see our CALENDAR for the next Open Box dates.

Our own original program, Open Box has been taking place at the Jewel Box Theatre in Belltown every month for almost two years. We’ve seen nearly 90 new ten-minute scripts and scores of actors. Come join the fun!
